Brander Gardens is located at the northern end of the Riverbend area of southwest Edmonton. The boundaries of Brander Gardens are Fort Edmonton Park to the north, the North Saskatchewan River to the west, Whitemud Drive and the neighbourhood of Brookside to the east, and Ramsay Heights to the south.
Downtown Edmonton is approximately 15 minutes, or 8 kilometres, from Brander Gardens.

Community layout includes many curved streets, cul de sacs, and rear alleyways. There are many trails, parks, and wooded areas, fitting of the "garden city" design ethos popular from the middle of the century onwards.

Brander Gardens in Riverbend, Edmonton, is a highly desirable community with many amenities and community features. At the centre of Brander Gardens is a large complex including parks, schools, and various stores at Riverbend Shopping Centre at the corner of 56 Avenue and Riverbend Road.
Riverbend Shopping Centre has a number of eateries like Cafe O'Play, Kings Garden Noodle House, Tastebuds, and Olympus Donair.
South of these is a series of large fields surrounded by schools. These schools are Tempo School (K-12), Brander Gardens Elementary, Riverbend Junior High, and St. Monica Catholic School (Pre-K). Across Whitemud Drive is Brookside Elementary, which is also located next to Brookside Park and the Brookside Community League.
Fort Edmonton Park
Fort Edmonton Park is Brander Gardens' biggest attraction, located just at the northern edge of the community, on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. This is a living history park, with stores, businesses, and attractions reminiscent of Edmonton from the mid-1800s to 1920s. These attractions are grouped by era from west to east.

The River Loop Trail runs around Fort Edmonton Park, linking to Fort Edmonton Footbridge from Whitemud Road. This bridge links the east shore of the river with the west, connecting to Wolf Will Ravine in the Oleskiw region of West Edmonton.
Other attractions in the surrounding area include Edmonton Valley Zoo (across the river to the north), Rainbow Valley Park, Snow Valley Ski Club, and Ramsay Park.
